Murud-Janjira is a Taluka Place situated in the remote and hilly area of the coastal region of the Raigad district of Maharashtra. It is famous for Janjira, which is one of the most impressive structures and one of the premier attractions among the forts in Maharashtra. Because of Konkan region receives heavy rainfall, natural vegetation is abundant and full of various useful tress and medical plants. Most of the cropping is directed towards rice and some additional Cereals and pulses. Murud Taluka is also financially backward. The population mostly belongs to scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, OBCs like Koli, Mali, Bhandari, Agri, Neo Buddhist, Charmakar, Kunbis, etc. who are mostly socio-economically and educationally backward.Muslim minority students are also in large numbers.

Konkan UnnatiMitra Mandal’s VasantraoNaik College of Arts and Commerce, Murud-janjira Dist. Raigad is affiliated with the University of Mumbai. Our visionary leader Late Barrister A. R. AntulaySaheb, the founder president of Konkan Unnati Mitra Mandal, Mumbai, dreamt that the people of this rural and hilly undeveloped area should get higher education with open access system irrespective of caste, color, creed, and religion. There was no other degree college in Murud Taluka and nearby Alibag city that is about 50 Km. away from or Roha is about 47 Km. away from where the students were supposed to get admission. Konkan Unnati Mitra Mandal Mumbai in June 1992 established this Arts and Commerce college to cope up with the basic need of higher education of local students in Murud Tehsil. Our intuition overcame many litigation and hurdles. During the initial stage, our management ran this college on a non-grant basis and borne all its expenditure.

This is a great achievement that only the college in Murud Taluka started by us is successfully providing higher education for the last 24 years. Today the strength of the college has crossed 600 students within 24 years. However, we have students from diverse backgrounds, different religions, castes creeds, from weaker sections of society, labor class, farming society. Hon. MushtaqAntulay, President of Konkan UnnatiMitra Mandal, Mumbai, the Governing Body and former Chairman, Maharashtra State Pollution Control Board; Local Managing Committee and Local Advisory Committee and Staff of the college are working hard for the overall development of the college. Our College is committed to developing the students into competent and self-reliant citizens with the spirit of nationality. The college is incessantly providing qualified faculty and modern technical amenities with the best infrastructure to the students for their development. It is effectively executed under the leadership of President of Konkan Unnati Mitra Mandal, Mumbai Hon. Management

Maharogi Sewa Samiti, Warora, Anandwan, the Eden Garden for the lame and leprosy-patients, the devoid and the destitute, the deaf and the dumb, was founded by Padma Vibhushan Baba Amte.
Set up in 1949, Maharogi Sewa Samiti, Warora, Anandwan is probably the only institution on planet that recasts the hidden and untapped energy of the most neglected and least cared segment of humanity in to potential use. Housed in 220 hectares of arid rocky land, Anandwan has grown into colossus. Baba Amte and his equally devoted wife, venerable Sadhanatai, have become the embodiment of love and devotion to the inmates of Anandwan, who were mostly the outcast and the thrown-away. Baba’s name and workaholic fumes have risen today to the celestial horizons. Hope, Dignity and Self-Respect have become the respective synonyms of Rousseau’s Liberty, and Fraternity “Charity destroys, work builds” has become the guiding spirit and Baba has succeeded in weaving a large and well-defined-refined family of orthopedically handicapped, visually impaired, hearing and speech crippled, young school dropouts and abandoned.
