Konkan Unnati Mitra Mandal’s Vasantrao Naik College of Arts and Commerce, Murud-Janjira Dist. Raigad is constantly developing. Our visionary leader Late Barrister A. R. Antulay Saheb, the founder president of Konkan Unnati Mitra Mandal, Mumbai, established in 1981 had a dream that the people of this rural, uneducated & undeveloped area should get higher education with open access system irrespective of caste, colour, creed and religion. Whereas Hon. Mushtaq Antulay Saheb former Chairman, Maharashtra State Pollution Control Board is President of Konkan Unnati Mitra Mandal, Mumbai the Governing Body, Local Managing Committee and Local Advisory Committee are working very hard for the overall development of the college. Murud is a Taluka place and a municipal council in Raigad district in the state of Maharashtra. As of 2011 India census, Murud Taluka had a population of 74,207 (Rural- 61,991 and Urban- 12,216). Murud is a tourist destination. It is situated in the remote and hilly area where the educational problems were very severe. Unfortunately, this Taluka was very backward so far, education is concerned. There was no other degree college in Murud Taluka and nearby Alibag is nearly 50 Km. away or Roha is about 67 Km. away where the students were supposed to get admission. However, we have the students from diverse background, different religions, castes creed, from weaker section of society, labour class, farming society. Murud Taluka is also financially backward. Konkan Unnati Mitra Mandal Mumbai decided to start the Arts and Commerce college to cope up with the basic needs of local students from June-1992. Now this college is having 24 years of successful service. College is with two streams namely Arts and Commerce.
Konkan Unnati Mitra Mandal faced litigation and other hurdles during initial stage but we came out with the strong desire to establish a senior college. Today strength of the college has crossed 600 students within a span of 24 years. That is great achievement because initially our management ran senior college on non-grant basis. All expenditure was borne by Konkan Unnati Mitra Mandal.
The College has N.S.S unit of 200 students. Students participate in various social activities like survey and rallies. Besides DLLE, WDC undertake social activities. Departmental activities include seminars, guest lectures, group discussions and publication of wall posters on various occasions in the college. The students participate in youth festival, sports competitions at university level. For effective teaching /learning process the use of Library, L.C.D. Projector, Laptops, DVD, TV, Internet, workshop, conference, seminar participation have been promoted by college.
